Cloake introduces THE HIMALAYAN LINE – A line of exquisitely and anciently
hand woven, yet modernly designed, cashmere and cashmere-silk scarves.
Classically-inspired and plumped vibrant with color, these are the most indulgent
(and practical!) textiles we have yet discovered. The hand weave of the cashmere
and the generous length of the scarves allow them to flow like butter and,
of course, warm like wine.
Designed by Cloake and hand woven by a remarkable woman-run design and production
village-house near Kathmandu, Nepal, these scarves are woven from the underbelly
hair of the high-altitude Himalayan goat. These hairs, combed from the animal
each year and spun into thread, are what is known as cashmere. From this cashmere
thread, each scarf is uniquely crafted on a pedal loom, hand-dyed (environmentally
safe), and hung on a clothesline to dry. Although visually handsome, one must
feel these scarves to truly appreciate their quality and craftsmanship.
The scarves range from extremely light to thick-and-toasty.
The lightest scarves are 90% cashmere/10% silk and drape like clouds (perfect
for the theater, air-conditioned rooms, or brisk spring and fall days).
The medium-weight scarves are either 70% cashmere/30% silk (the silk adds
sheen and fluidity) or double-faced 96% cashmere/4% silk, and are the most
versatile of the line. They look grand with anything.
The thickest scarves are 100% lustrous herring-bone weave 2-ply cashmere.
They are the coziest items you may ever wear. Winter phenomonons.
If you have any questions about these textiles, please feel free to email
us. We have been draped in these scarves for five years and hope they will
imbibe you, as they have us, with giddy luxury and the distant lure of handsome
craftsmanship and naturally exotic raw materials.
Cashmere and cashmere with silk. We implore you to Enjoy.
Although the photographs hint at the beauty and detailed texture of these
scarves, nothing compares to feeling these pieces. If you like the look, the
actual sensation is even better. (Note: our scarves are not gender specific.)
