Cloake seeks out textiles from around the world and creates simple design lines around them. Our focus is on the sublimity of the textile itself.

Cloake began in 1999 as a tiny brainstorm around a collection of textiles from Ethiopia, Nepal and India and evolved into a company in 2001 with our first design: the cloake. Later that year we confirmed our existence, by name at least, in a Manhattan Irish pub, toasting under a sign: The CLOAKE Room, and celebrating our first official photoshoot and magazine publication.

Our design studio began in a tiny apartment in New York’s West Village. After development travels to India and Nepal in 2002, we migrated to a warehouse in Williamsburg, Brooklyn during the design-boom. We also acquired a business partner.

Cloake is now back in Manhattan with a studio address on Mulberry Street and a temporary studio in Washington D.C.. But being transitory by nature, we are officially based between cities, towns, countries and canyons (with a few home-bases in between).

As of 2006, we have closeted our past designs to focus solely on The Scarves, returning us to our first-born interest: the textile. The Himalayan Line debuts with phenomenally soft, expertly hand loomed textiles; boldly classic in design and guided by the expertise of a woman-helmed production/design company near Kathmandu, Nepal. After four years of collaborating, weaving and developing we are happy to present our efforts and to begin a continuous and compelling line of scarves that will change and adapt as we seek out new discoveries.

Along the way, we shall continue to collaborate in the visual arts and bring you links, galleries and loops as well as new design lines as they evolve. Please join our email list so we may keep you apprised.

Thank you for visiting Cloake.
